In class we have been reading the book Imagine A Night by Sarah L Thompson, illustrated by the rich paintings of Rob Gonsalves.
In class we did 'See' as part of the 'See Think Wonder' Routine. We talked about what we saw in the pictures. When posting your comments below I would like you to choose one of the paintings, describe it and comment on what it made you 'think' of and 'wonder' about.

In my favourite picture I can see a circular room with three people in it. It first looks like they are looking out into the night. The man in the middle has a telescope. There is a child and a woman in the room. On the floor there are pictures of the stars, moons and planets.
ReplyDeleteI first thought this was a family looking outside at night. Then I noticed the woman was cutting holes in the curtains and that the curtains were blue but when she cut holes in them the light shone through. Now I think it is actually day, but the curtains are drawn making it look like night.
I wonder why she is doing this and why the curtains are drawn during the day. Do the family prefer the dark to the light I wonder? I also wonder what the man is looking at using his telescope.

In my favourite picture there is a circular room with 3 people in it and one of the people is a woman. It is day time and she is cutting holes into the curtains to make it look like it is night time. There is also a kid in the room looking out of the curtains. There is also a man who has got a telescope and is looking at the floor. On the floor there are planets and suns.

I can see a big room with lots of beds in it. The covers on the beds turn into islands and the blue floor between the beds is like a river. The top of the room turns into the sky. The covers of the beds become like mountains. I can see 3 people jumping on the beds and one person asleep.

I wonder why there is an airplane in the picture.

I can see a lamp post with beds that turn into snow. In the back of the picture near the forest it is just snow. There is someone in one bed. It is a boy or a girl sleeping in one of the comfy beds.
ReplyDeleteI think this is the house of the boy or girl I think that the snow on the wall looks like blankets.
I wonder if the lamp post is magic and it makes the snow turn into beds where the light is.
I can see a boy playing with a train set on a track, suddenly a real train comes from the hallway while he is playing with a toy train in the other hallway.
ReplyDeleteI think that because the train is coming and the boy is not noticing, that the other hallway has turned into a train station.
I wonder why the boy is playing with the train track at night without the lights on.
I see clouds and trees. There is water. There are people. There is the sky. There are rocks. There is a boat.
ReplyDeleteI think that the clouds are making the people go along the water. The people are the clouds reflecting in the water.
I wonder how this works?
I see people coming out of the windows. I can see a boy and the moon. I can see the people that are coming out are made of clouds.
ReplyDeleteI think the people are going to take the boy into the clouds and turn him into a cloud.
I wonder why the boy didn't run away - it is quite scary!
I see a big train and a kid is playing with is toy train and he hears "All aboard!"
ReplyDeleteI think it is good because there is a track and the train keeps going around the track. There are 2 trains in the picture but I think it is really all one train.
I wonder why the train gets smaller and bigger.
I see a man with a telescope with glasses in his hands. On the floor there is a jumper. It looks like it starts at night and then it comes into the daytime and then it becomes a curtain.
ReplyDeleteI think the man is looking at a planet on the floor and I think the lady is cutting the curtains to make it look like it is night.
I wonder which planet the man is looking at and I wonder why he is not wearing his glasses if he needs them, so he can look at the planets more easily.
My painting has a circle and there is a man with a telescope. It looks like nightime and on the other page it looks like daytime. When I saw the picture it made me wonder if the man was looking into space and what he was thinking.

I see that clouds are changing to humans in the darkness. I see a girl who is afraid of the people seen in the clouds. I also see that the people are people in the darkness, while the same figures are becoming clouds under light.

I wonder why the the same figures are seen sometimes people sometimes clouds.
I loved the picture with the ladies walking with lanterns in the reflection of trees in the water.
